How to Clean

CELLULAR SHADES

To dust use a dry cloth, feather duster or a vacuum with brush attachment, like with most shades. You can also get dust and debris off the shade with compressed air or a hair dryer on a cool setting. (Just make sure to move the shade into a position where you can get at every nook, cranny and cell!)

If you must do a spot cleaning, avoid any scrubbing or creasing the cells. Then leave the shade to dry out while completely lowered.

You can also get the shades cleaned with professional ultrasonic cleaning. But you must specify that they do not use harsh chemicals.

FAUX WOOD BLINDS

Veneta™ faux wood blinds are easy to clean: dust and wipe down the slats in both the open and closed positions. For tougher spots, use a cloth dampened with water and add non-abrasive dish soap.

ROLLER & SOLAR SHADES

Roller shades can be cleaned by dusting or using handheld vacuum. Make sure to lower the entire shade so you can get every inch of it cleaned.

For spot cleaning, moisten a soft cloth or sponge (not the scratchy, abrasive side). Add a mild detergent, if necessary, and then blot gently until the spot is out.

Once you’re done, remember to let the shade dry while fully lowered.

ROMAN SHADES

Roman shades can be cleaned by dusting with a dry cloth, feather duster, or with a handheld vacuum. Just lower the shade to get at all the fabric.

If you have to spot clean the shade, use lukewarm water and a soft cloth or sponge—whichever you use, make sure it’s not dripping wet. Add mild detergent if needed and blot gently—you don’t want to crease or damage the fabric.

You can iron Roman shades if necessary, but keep the iron on a low-medium setting. Do not iron fabrics that are 100% silk, 100% linen/cotton blend, or 100% cotton.

SHUTTERS

Shutters are among the easiest window treatments to clean. A patented coating protects the shutters, so they typically only need to be dusted and wiped down.

Tilt the louvers while cleaning so you can wipe the shutters down in the open and closed positions. You should be able to do most of this cleaning with a feather duster, a dry cloth, or the brush attachment of a vacuum. If you find that there’s a more persistent issue, you can use a cloth dampened with a little water and non-abrasive dish soap.

SHEER SHADES

Like many of our shades, all you’ll need to do is dust with a dry, soft cloth or a feather duster. If using a vacuum, you should only use a setting for blowing off dust. Do not use any “Suction” Setting.

Sheer shades are 100% polyester and are not waterproof, so spot cleaning as a method is not recommended. If you must, do so carefully with a soft cloth moistened with lukewarm water.

DUALDRAPE™

DualDrape™ has separate fabric vanes that make cleaning the shade easy. You can dust or spot clean, following the usual procedures, but you can also take each vane down to put in a washing machine or to iron, making it practical to keep your DualDrape™ beautiful.

If you’re putting the shade’s vanes in the laundry, you must follow a few rules:

1. Remove the fabric vanes you want to clean. They should unclip easily.
2. Fold the fabric and put it in a laundry bag before putting it in the washing machine.
3. Wash on a cold water gentle cycle. We cannot stress this enough: when washing, DO NOT use any cleaning products containing bleach. Don’t use a spin cycle after wash.
4. Take the fabric out. Line dry them until damp before reassembling them onto the headrail.
5. Reassemble the vanes onto the headrail and leave them open to dry. This helps to prevent wrinkles.

If the woven bands on top of the fabric vanes raise slightly during washing, you can reposition them by ironing on the Nylon setting – the temperature should be around 200 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit.
